Leveraging AI for Product Roadmap Validation

As we shifted from consultancy to a SaaS powerhouse, facing the challenge of keeping our product development in sync with evolving goals was no small feat. I led the charge in mapping out the next versions of our software, using AI to smartly validate and rank our backlog. This involved digging into sales and client conversations to really get what our clients were after.

My Role

As the Senior Product Manager, I spearheaded the exhaustive process of data gathering, analysis, and stakeholder engagement. My responsibilities included conducting in-depth interviews, setting up and monitoring feedback collection systems, and synthesizing data to inform our product roadmap. Weekly cross-functional meetings were essential for reviewing feedback and ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives.

Technologies Used

The project utilized an innovative set of tools, including Jira Product Discovery for roadmap planning, ChatGPT for processing call transcripts, Zoom and Sales Loft for capturing client interactions, Miro for collaborative brainstorming, and Google Forms for internal feedback collection. This tech stack enabled a comprehensive approach to data analysis and roadmap development.

Challenges Overcome

Navigating the adoption of a beta feature from Atlassian's Jira Product Discovery presented significant challenges, as did ensuring that internal feedback was effectively heard and integrated. A crucial part of my role was to foster transparency and trust in the product development process, overcoming technical and communication hurdles to create a dynamic, data-backed product roadmap.

Results and Impact

The outcome was a dynamic and living document that continuously evolves based on real-time data and feedback. This approach not only democratized the feedback process but also significantly enhanced trust in the product team during a critical transformation period. By moving away from static planning tools to a more interactive and responsive system, we empowered team members to engage with and contribute to the roadmap actively, marking a significant step forward in how product development is managed and executed.
